Easy Buttermilk Biscuit Recipe

1. Ingredients 

Gather the ingredients including all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, unsalted butter (cold), and buttermilk.

2. Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

3. Mix Dry Ingredients 

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

4. Cut in Butter   

Cut the cold unsalted butter into small cubes and add them to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

5. Add Buttermilk 

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir gently with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix.

6. Shape Dough 

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it holds together. Pat the dough into a rectangle about 1 inch thick.

7. Cut Biscuits 

Use a biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass to cut out biscuits from the dough. Press straight down without twisting the cutter to ensure the biscuits rise evenly. Place the cut biscuits onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.

8. Bake 

Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top and cooked through. Remove from the oven and serve warm with butter, jam, or gravy.
